I was working in the school library when I was greeted by our Campus Life director. I told him that the name he addressed me by was no longer my name.
I now identify as a transgender man after starting in middle school as a bi-sexual and later as a lesbian.
After pulling up a chair and sitting across from me, he asked, “What does that mean to me?” I explained that my brain’s chemical makeup does not align with my body.
He asked, “Is it like your mind and body are continually wrestling?” I nodded.
As the bell rang, I stood up and said, “I really enjoyed this conversation. Hopefully, we can do it again soon.”
